Back to California
It’s always a special occasion when the pearly gates open in Maranello, the birthplace of supercar Ferrari. This time the gates opened for the California 2009, Ferrari’s entry level Grand Tourer. Powered by a 4.3-littre V8, the car offers an exhilarating experience owing to the 460 rampaging Italian horses, propelling it to 100 kmph in 4 seconds. With speed spurs like that, adding a launch control button is definitely a good idea. What the button does is ensure precise delivery of torque to the wheels, ensuring minimal tyre spin and maximum acceleration. This is the first time that the company is offering a seven-speed dual clutch in the California (first launched in 1960). However it’s not just the technicals which make this version special. The California 2009 comes with a retractable hardtop which folds away into the boot. Yes, this is a Ferrari with boot space! The car can accommodate two up front and two in the rear, and the boot can be accessed from within. All you need to do is cough up £130,000 (Rs. 1.13 crore)
