Televisions

Screen Size

The TV screen size is always measured diagonally, and varies from 14 inches up to 71 inches. The larger screen size generally gives an impression that the bigger the screen, the better the picture. But this is not always correct. The placement really matters as a small TV screen will be difficult to watch if you are sitting very far from it. You should watch TV from suitable distance so that you do not see the ‘dots or raster’ that make up the picture and close enough to be able to recognize faces on the TV screen! Generally smaller screens are cheaper and tend to have fewer features as compared to the extra features of the large screens.

The size of the room where TV is to be kept, should determine its screen size. Generally, it is advised to place the television 3 times the screen’s diagonal dimension for the ideal viewing and listening spot. Let us take an example. If the size of screen of the TV is 32 inches. It is advisable to sit 32×3= 96 inches (8 feet) away from it for best viewing. In case, if your room size is 10 feet x 10 feet, it is not advised to purchase or select TV having 50 inches. As per the above rule, you should watch TV 3 times the screen size i.e. 50×3=150 inches (12.5 feet). Hence, 50 inches television should not be selected for viewing in smaller rooms.
